Humpback whale sighted inside the bay. The whale turned west and headed outside of the Golden Gate Bridge towards the Farallon Islands. Sometimes whales come into the bay looking for food and leave once they find there is no krill in the bay. This is a rare occurrence, and whale watchers got an amazing views this morning!
Every year San Francisco Whale Tours partners with The Marine Mammal Center to release rehabilitated sea lions back into their natural environment. Captain Joe and crew carry them out to the Farallon Islands aboard the boat, the Kitty Kat, and every one is able to see them make their journey back home. In this video, "Fruitvale", a young California sea lion pup discovered on a busy freeway was released.
Sea Flow (now Pacific Environment) is a local non-profit that researches ocean noise from shipping and military testing and how it negatively impacts the marine life. In this video, members of Sea Flow came aboard the Kitty Kat for a journey to the Farallon Islands where they listened to the sounds of the underwater world.
